The Shining (1980)

In 7 words or less: One of the greatest Horror Films ever.

Best bits? Watching this in HD for the first time may have been the first time I'd properly seen it. THE CLARITY, I TELLS YA!!!! It really shows off the awesome camera work in this film. Every shot is beautifully framed, it looks gorgeous. Stedicam dream.

I really enjoyed the first couple of acts this time around. The interview is a great scene, and funny too as well as the scene at the doctors with Wendy. It feels like it's going to be a fun winter all hauled up in the hotel. But sadly, things start turning nasty.

The score is incredible, mainly doing all the scare work (apart from Jack Nicholson's face, of course).

Did it make you think thoughts? Poor, Poor Dick Hallorann, spends the whole film getting back to the hotel to save Wendy and Danny, just to be axed in the chest, Scatman Crothers really is a cool guy. Shelly Duvall looks actually terrified when being chased by Jack too. This still gives me the shivers (although doesn't scare me as much anymore). But, when the scares subside, there is a great piece of film making to fall back on, which a lot of horrors don't have.

Would you watch it again? Once a year, yes.
