In 7 words or less: Pipe-smoking Norwegian man takes a wander.
Best bits? The opening scene at Odd's retirement sets a precedent for a number of beautifully bizarre situations which quietly unfold throughout this film. With deadpan faces and arms poised to imitate piston rods, Odd's fellow train drivers begin chanting "chug-chug woo woo!" and it's probably the best farewell I've seen. Oh and the silent car crash was another gem.
Did it make you think thoughts? Yes, it made me think how dark Norway seems and why we don't see old men with pipes as much these days, a lot of other thoughts were thought during this film.
Would you watch it again? For sure, it's a slow paced film which requires total concentration so I would need to be in the right mood but it's one for the shelf alongside Bent Hamer's earlier film Kitchen Stories....
Rating (out of 100%): 85% It's funny, confusing and odd. The music was rather sweet too.
