Stake Land (2010)

In 7 words or less: They're vampires, but really they're zoms.

Best bits? Lots to choose from. I think the two main characters are great, I found them pretty real and likeable - which is rare for a US horror film! The bit where they get their own back on the stupid religious freaks is good too! The overall mood of this film is great, with obvious comparisons to The Road, but with a less realistic tone, and more blatant "goodies" and "baddies".

It's more sober and real than something like 30 Days of Night or Blade, but still with some total "Yess! Get him!" moments of vampire killing. A few bits are heavy going, but the realism is kept up through out, and there are no ridiculous, 2 gun sideways, running up walls set piece action bits....

Did it make you think thoughts? ....Apart from one moment where I thought they sort of dropped the ball. One of the characters gets bumped off in a way that is a step too nasty for this film, and the scene in which it happens seems like it was from a different piece - much more like Blade 2 than this.

Would you watch it again? This is a great film, and I'm sure I'll be watching it again at some point... Once I've finished sharpening the stakes in the back garden.

Rating (out of 100%): Really high end vampire film this. 85%
